Railgunners is a side-scrolling shoot-'em-up in which you play the pilot of an experimental spaceship trying to battle a swarm of alien invaders. In each level, you fly your way through waves and waves of enemies, trying to reach the powerful boss at the end.
Learning from experience
The basic gameplay of Railgunners will be familiar to anyone who's played a shoot-'em-up side-scroller. You fly your ship around, zapping alien enemies. Each combination of pilot and ship provides different advantages. However, there are two important twists. The first is that during each mission, your ship's energy will eventually run out (and, of course, you might be killed). When that happens, you return to base, where you can upgrade your ship. The second innovation is that you're launched into each level by the titular railgun, which launches you further into each level as it is upgraded, saving some time. However, each enemy wave is different; they're procedurally generated, not the repeating patterns found in other shoot-'em-up games.
